Multimode fiber (MMF) is an optical fiber designed to carry multiple light rays or modes simultaneously. It is commonly used in high-speed data transmission networks such as Ethernet and Fibre Channel. MMF has a larger core diameter than single-mode fiber, allowing multiple light rays to propagate through the core. This enables higher bandwidth and longer transmission distances than single-mode fiber. MMF is typically used for short-distance applications such as data centers, local area networks, and fiber-to-the-home connections. It is also used in long-distance applications such as submarine cables and terrestrial links. MMF is available in a variety of core sizes and can be used with a variety of connectors and transceivers.
